  Write a post on your blog asking your visitors to post a comment saying hello.

  Don’t expect much response: I’m getting one comment per 700 hits. What’s more effective is posting a quiz and asking people to put the response in the comments. What’s MOST effective is going to other people’s blogs and leaving a comment there.
