Tracking audio file clicks
-
Looking through all the stats, I don’t see (probably missing it) any way to track how many interactions an audio file gets. I see nothing in the “clicks” lists that would indicate anyone is playing any of the mp3 media embedded in the posts. Is there a specific tracker for this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Jason,
No, we don’t have a stat to track the plays of embedded audio, but it is a good idea. I’ll pass it over to our data team for consideration.
Cheers!

Thanks. That would be a big help. Since you already track clicks on image media, it shouldn’t be a stretch to do it for audio/video files.

If there’s a simple download link, the click to the media should still be counted—we record clicks for any non-post/page link that’s clicked.
With the embed, it adds a bit more complexity since there are a few different media players depending on the visitor’s browser that we’ll load. I can’t promise anything, but we’ll consider it.
Thanks!

Also, is there any way to consolidate tracking the podcast posts that feed into Feedburner? Having a hard time tallying uniques.

Hi Jason,
Not really. With feeds, our “stats pixel” is pushed out, so traditional feed readers will still display it (and assuming the feed reader doesn’t strip or block it in some way), it’ll still count as a view often.
iTunes and most podcast players won’t, so it becomes harder to track. We do hope to have an integrated podcast solution soon so you can at least avoid Feedburner. There isn’t a set timeline for that at the moment, though.
Cheers!
