Tracking engagement
-
Hi all,
I am developing a website for a research project, and it is essential that I have accurate metrics of user engagement at an individual participant level (i.e. I need to be able to track that X participant used the website in a certain way over the intervention period / link up their engagement data between separate logins). I understand I can achieve this for certain metrics (access to the site, access to pages, duration of use) using Google Analytics, however I also need to be able to measure interactivity (e.g. playing website videos, duration watching videos, clicking accordion features). Can anyone advise me as to whether this is possible, and if so, the best way to do this?
Thanks,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,
Please post a link to your site.
The options available to you will depend on whether the site is hosted on the servers here at WordPress.com or if it’s hosted somewhere else.
Thank :)

Hi Gary,
The site is yet to be developed. I am just trying to work out whether it is possible to track those detailed website engagement metrics, if I am to proceed with developing the site in WordPress.
Thanks

The only WordPress.com plan that allows the use of Google Analytics is the Business plan, which also the installation third-party plugins and custom code.
If you can find a plugin that does exactly what, you could then install it.
The level of tracking you outline is quite advanced and would likely require a knowledge of event and goal tracking in Google Analytics.
It might also be worth looking into third-party services like Hotjar, Mouseflow, Smartlook, or Inspectlet.
