Trade-offs when moving to a self-hosted environment

    Hello Happy Community,

    I am considering moving my blog from wordpress.com to a self-hosted environment (specifically dreamhost). But, in the process of “testing the waters” I noticed that not all cool features I enjoy on my wordpress.com blog are switched over.

    For example, nothing related to sharing seems to be present on the default platform installed by the host (dreamhost, through their oneclick installation process):
    – On wordpress.com, at the end of each standard post I have three small sections: Rate this, Share this, Like this
    – On dreamhost, none of the above mentioned sections are present

    Is there something that could be installed/switched-on on the self-hosted environment that would enable Rate/Share/Like features? Or are these something specific only to wordpress.com?

    Also, on the Dashboard / Setttings:
    – On wordpress.com there is a bunch of tabs (how should I call them?) like Sharing, Polls & Ratings, Domains, etc.
    – On dreamhost, none of the above mentioned tabs are present.

    Again, is this something that could be switched-on/enabled? I’m mostly interested in what’s available through the Sharing “tab”.

    Would really appreciate some answers to the above that could educate me a bit. (Is it showing that I’m almost a total newbie? :-))

    You need to install lpugins and we can’t help with that here. Go to > http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/

    Rate/Share/Like features?

    The bottom line here is that you need to register an WordPress.org username account on the top right hand corner of this page http://wordpress.org/support/ Then you need to post all your support questions there as we cannot help you ate WordPress.com with your WordPress.org install.

    I see… Could you please tell me which plugin(s) is WordPress.com using for the Rate this / Share this / Like this functionality? I’d like to use the same plugin(s) if is publicly available.
