Traffic drops significantly after buying domain
-
Last week our blog (http://firmsconsulting.wordpress.com/) started seeing a steady increase in traffic:
Monday – 30
Tuesday – 37
Wednesday – 61
Thursday – 201
Friday – 310On friday I bought the domain firmsconsulting and activated it. We then saw a steady drop in traffic:
Saturday – 50
Sunday – 201
Monday – 170
Tuesday -130
Wednesday – 120
Thursday – 80
Friday -50Why would this be. Would changing my address to http://firmsconsulting.com do this? I have changed it back to http://firmsconsulting.wordpress.com/
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

All links from the old blog address will automatically redirect to the new address, so any links on the search engines will still get to you, and with a 301 permanent redirect, so the search engines will pick up the new URLs and move your page rank over to the new URL automatically, but it will take a little time. It is not unusual to see a drop when you first switch to a new domain name (who knows why?).
There is also some apparent weirdness going on with Google in general, and a good portion of my clients have seen their referrals from Google drop significantly lately. My self-hosted blog dropped by 40% and I believe Raincoaster’s has by about the same margin (hosted here).

My blog has actually dropped by about 70% since May. There’s something peculiar going on with that blog, and it shouldn’t be taken as typical.

You will drop when you get a new domain name, but not normally by THAT much, since the links to http://thepeoplesmovies.wordpress.com/ will all still work. Something else is responsible for that.
