Traffic fluctuations
-
Can anyone explain why the traffic on my site is so erratic? One day a few weeks back I smashed my record with 86 in one day – I hadn’t posted messages that day on any forums etc or pinged any sites – it seemed like an anomaly. Recently my traffic is pathetic – only 9 yesterday for instance. This is after leaving my signature at the bottom of loads of posts and updating blog entries etc.
Now I’m quite clued up on maths and statistics, but these fluctuations don’t make sense to me. I’ve also noticed that traffic drops substantially at weekends – is this a known phenomenon.
Any ideas? -
Yes, traffic always drops on weekends. For answers on why you got that hit spike, you’d have to go back and look at your inbound links, referrer stats, etc for that day: sometimes one post will go viral and that’s all it takes.
There are millions of things that will affect hits; catchy title, timeliness, getting linked to on a forum, what time of day you update, you name it.
Look at the stats over the past week and see where the trend is. And go back to anyone who linked to you and read their blogs. If you like them, comment. Can’t hurt.

The only way you can get regular stable traffic is if you have regular readers. This takes time to build.
And yes in my experience too weekend traffic is lower. -
yes, weekend traffic is lousy, so don’t go posting good posts then – save it for monday.

You have less readers & traffic during the weekends? I thought I get too much traffic on weekends when everyone these days stay indoor than being outside having a bottle of beer. Just blog whenever you feel like, people will get there and find you somehow.

You should see ISP router graphs. :)
I think most of the fluxes are from search engine results myself.
