Traffic not showing in stats

  • Unknown's avatar

This morning, my Clicky stats site showed that I had 5 visitors and 79 views to my blog site. However, my WP stats say that I have had 0 visitors, no referrers, nothing. One visitor even left a comment, which was not sent to my email. What could the problem be?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

These are the visits that WordPress.com stats does not track:
    The following are not counted:
Visits from registered users of the blog when they are logged in.
Visits to uploaded documents and files
Visits from browsers that do not execute javascript or load images.
GoogleBot and other search engine spiders.

    The bottom line:
Get Clicky, Sitemeter, Statcounter, wordpress stats and all the others will never agree. Each one of them decides how and what they will count as a hit. Some count page views and some count unique visitors. Therefore, use any of the stats counters only as a general guide to hits.

Understand that an application that is not running on the same servers your blog is on is going to be susceptible to wild fluctuations. This is because all hits have to be transferred over the internet to different servers, and there are literally thousands of things that can go wrong between the server your blog is on and the server at the stats place.

Also be aware of the possibility that the software or hardware at the stats place may be broken and not recording, or counting things as intended.

We know that all traffic counters produce different totals. However, they should all capture trends, such as a heavy day, or slower traffic on the weekends.

But sudden differences between WordPress Stats and Google Analytics are different from the usual variability.

Saturday I made a few changes to my blog. In fact, I tried updating WordPress, which failed because of the mismatched version of PHP. Automatic Update neither discovered the mismatch ahead of time, nor offered any kind of rollback. So I had to rebuild the blog from a recent backup.

Since this update fiasco, my statistics according to Google Analytics have been typical (975 hits for Sunday 7/10), but WordPress Stats is showing very low values (138 for Sunday). For comparison, last Sunday (7/3) showed 741 (GA) and 795 (WP) hits.

What do I need to fix to make WordPress Stats work the same way again?

Please post an active link staring with http:// to the blog in question.
Are you referring to a wordpress.ORG install?
    http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If so then have you installed JetPack? http://jetpack.me

Never mind. First, I’m self hosting my blog, so I guess the place to ask is elsewhere.

Second, the aborted install turned off all of my plugins, and I forgot to turn on one, so the pages were crashing before they wrote the piece of code that collects the stats.

All fixed, sorry for the bother.

    Time Thief –

Thanks for your reply. I didn’t see it before my last post here. It is a dot-org site, so I should not have posted here.

I’ll check out JetPack, though, it looks interesting.
