traffic to "Home page / Archives"

  I’ve been trying to get people to look at one perticular blog. I’ve sent them a link to that one particular item. There’s been a big (for me !) increase in traffic, but only a few to the item, and most to “Home page / Archives”. I don’t even know what that means! Why would traffic go there (wherever it is) and not to the item I sent them the link to?
