  I have already paid for another year for my domain name but i want to transfer it to wordpress and build a site without having to pay for my domain again

  I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  Hi there!

  It’s more what you prefer – you can either connect the domain or transfer it.

  Connecting allows you to keep the domain registered with your current domain registrar and direct it to your WordPress.com site: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/

  A transfer would allow managing both your site and domain from the same place: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/

  With any new plan purchase for a site, you’ll receive a domain credit which you can use to either register a new domain for free for a year, or transfer a domain to us for free. Upon a completed domain transfer, the domain is automatically renewed for a year. You would pay to renew the domain for subsequent renewals through WordPress.com.

  Therefore it depends on whether or not you want to manage your domain separately from your hosting or if you want to manage both in the same place. In the end, the result is the same.

  Also, to have your domain be your primary domain instead of the free *.wordpress.com URL, you do need to purchase one of our paid plans.
