    Hi there!

Instead of using FTP, which we don’t offer, we have a guide for you that’ll help you migrate!

Have a look, and let me know if I can help further! :)

    Hi,
GoDaddy should give you the FTP info you need to access your hosting space with them. WordPress.com does not provide FTP access, but you don’t need it to export your site content.

This should help walk you through the process of migrating:

    Hi Thanks
That was helpful, unfortunately when I’m creating the backup XML file, the export is not transferring everything, so the file is exported incomplete (missing theme and plugins, for example) all the media is coming in good.
Can WP provide me with a clean backup of the xml file?

    Thanks, CB

  • HI there,

Just seeing this now. An XML export file only contains content, that is, posts, pages, comments and media. Your site’s theme, widgets and settings can’t be exported, because we use a completely different version of the WordPress software on WordPress.com than the version you’ll be using at GoDaddy. It’s not possible to export the theme files, because those files don’t exist in any format that you can use somewhere else.

You need to build your site and install your own themes and plugins on GoDaddy’s end, and then import your content via the file we provide.

    Thanks, that was helpful.
