Tranferring followers to wordpress.org/bluehost self hosting
-
Hi There! I am in the process of transferring my wordpress.com blog to self-hosting at bluehost. I am trying to figure out how to transfer my followers, pins and FB likes. I found this article (http://wordpress.org/support/topic/importing-wordpresscom-followers) and it states that I should contact tech support at wordpress.com to ask for help in tranferring my followers. Can you please help me?
Thanks a bunch!

Hi Angela,
I’m happy to transfer the users who have subscribed to your blog either by email or via the WordPress.com Reader.
Please keep in mind that while your email subscribers will continue to receive email notifications of new posts as before, WordPress.com followers will only see new posts in the Reader. They will not receive email updates unless they subscribe to receive those on your new site. You might want to post a notice on your old site about your upcoming move to keep your readers informed.
Can you please reply back and confirm the address of the WordPress.com blog where your subscribers are now and the address of the self-hosted WordPress.org blog where you want them transferred? If you have any questions before we transfer them, please let me know. :)

Hi There,
Thanks so much for your help so far. I do have a few questions before switching over to self-hosting.Will my FB likes, pins on pinterest and site stats transfer?
I have three current urls for my blog:
mamarosemary.com (primary domain)
moonsprig.com
moonsprig.wordpress.comThe address of my new blog will ultimately be mamarosemary.com.
Which brings me to my next question, do we transfer my followers after I have the new site set-up and running or before I have it set up or does it matter?
Will the people who started following me via email when I was moonsprig.com be transferred?
Thanks so much for all of your help. I really appreciate it!
Best,

Hi Angela,
I’m happy to answer your questions:
Will my FB likes, pins on pinterest and site stats transfer?
We can’t guarantee that your Facebook likes and Pinterest pins will show up after you switch to your self-hosted site. These numbers are pulled directly from Facebook and Pinterest, so the transfer depends on how those services track the likes and pins on their end. However, because you plan to use the same domain name with your new site, if you set up your new self-hosted site with the same content and structure as your WordPress.com site (by importing the content from your existing site into your new site) there’s a good chance they will show up.
You can find out more about the Jetpack sharing features for your self-hosted site here: Jetpack Sharing
Similarly, as long as you export the content from your WordPress.com site and import it into your new self-hosted site, we can merge your site’s stats so they transfer over. Just remind me when you’re ready for the transfer that you want both your followers and site stats transferred.
Which brings me to my next question, do we transfer my followers after I have the new site set-up and running or before I have it set up or does it matter?
You will want to have your new site up and running first, and then we can transfer your followers for you. Any changes you make to your site’s setup (such as changes to the domain name or Jetpack plugin) can cause glitches in the transfer, so it’s better if the new site is up and ready to go before we do the transfer.
Will the people who started following me via email when I was moonsprig.com be transferred?
Yep! We will transfer all of the followers from your WordPress.com blog. Email followers will continue to receive email notifications, and WordPress.com followers will continue to receive updates in the WordPress.com Reader.
If you have any other questions about this, please let me know!
