Transfer

  • Unknown's avatar

This is an chat session I had with Siteground. My stats and followers have not been transferred to wordpress.org-plus where is the follow button? How can people follow me. Also, how do I set up a FAQ area? I am quite frustrated with all this as I was told everything would be transferred.
    Your Chat Transcript on 28/04/2017
    Stoyko T.: Hello Juliana
Stoyko T.: Hope you are doing great today!
Stoyko T.: How can I help
Juliana Roche: Where are my stats and followers on my new site. It says 3 people viewed. It was almost 1000 also how do new people follow m&s. Where is follow button ?
Stoyko T.: Can you please elaborate a bit more
Stoyko T.: As to where you are seeing this
Stoyko T.: And if you are using any plugins to check that data
Juliana Roche: I can’t see my list of email followers. Before my blog was migrated over I could see 19 different countries had looked at my blog and nearly 1000 hits. Now it’s showing 2 countries and 3 views!
Stoyko T.: Were you using a plugin for these stats
Stoyko T.: Because I can see the website was recently transferred to us
Juliana Roche: How do I use a plugin
Stoyko T.: And that might have caused the restart of stats
Juliana Roche: How do I use a plugin
Stoyko T.: You can use them from your WordPress admin dashboard
Stoyko T.: In the Plugin section
    Juliana Roche: How
Stoyko T.: But usually whenever a transfer happens
Stoyko T.: The visitor stats are reset
Stoyko T.: As the website is on a fresh server
Stoyko T.: As to how to use plugins
Juliana Roche: What do I do when I click plugin
Stoyko T.: Once you are in the plugin section
Stoyko T.: You can click on Add New
Stoyko T.: To search for plugins
Stoyko T.: And install them :)
Juliana Roche: Which plugin do you recommend
Stoyko T.: Also, can you please elaborate a bit more by what you mean with ‘how do new people follow m&s’
Stoyko T.: As I personally don’t use WordPress
Stoyko T.: And we in SiteGround, as a hosting company, feel these questions are outside of our grasp to fully answer
Stoyko T.: I can do a quick google search for you
Stoyko T.: To see if I am able to find a good plugin with which you can track your followers
Juliana Roche: My old site had a follow button people entered their email address
Stoyko T.: But if you need a more detailed answer I advise you to contact a wordpress developer
Stoyko T.: As he will be able to provide you with a more detailed answer
    Juliana Roche: How
Stoyko T.: I advise you to search in google
Stoyko T.: And pick a developer you feel can help you with your questions
Stoyko T.: Can I help with anything else :)
Juliana Roche: I thought plugins came with this Site? I was told all my stats and followers would be there
Stoyko T.: As the site was transferred from WordPress.com
Stoyko T.: They don’t offer full access to their cPanel
Stoyko T.: And we are limited with what we can transfer
    Stoyko T.: But don’t worry
Stoyko T.: Your old visitors will still be able to access your website via voiceathlete.co.uk
Juliana Roche: I was told different
Stoyko T.: Allow me a moment to check the ticket
Stoyko T.: And I will be back with a more detailed answer
Stoyko T.: As my colleagues have informed you
Stoyko T.: We were only able to transfer your website posts, pages, comments, custom fields, terms, navigation menus and custom posts
Stoyko T.: As they didn’t have access to any other data
Juliana Roche: So how do I get my stats and followers back?
Stoyko T.: I was able to find an article in google and it seems you will need to move your stats manually
Stoyko T.: I can link you the article
Stoyko T.: So you can give it a look yourself
Stoyko T.: And if you need further help
Juliana Roche: Do I contact WordPress to sort this out because I don’t feel like I’m getting anywhere
Stoyko T.: Come back over the LiveChat so we can help you further :)
Stoyko T.: Also, if you contact WordPress.com
Stoyko T.: They will be able to provide you with a much more detailed answer on how to move the stats
Juliana Roche: Send me the link on how to transfer my stats and followers
    Stoyko T.: Here it is
    Stoyko T.: url:https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/transfer-of-my-stats-and-followers-to-self-hosted
Stoyko T.: Give it a look and if you need any further help
Stoyko T.: Contact us again anytime!
    Stoyko T.: :)
Juliana Roche: Can you send me a copy of this conversation to my email please
    Stoyko T.: Of course :)
Stoyko T.: Can I do anything else for you for the moment
Stoyko T.: Have a great rest of your day :)

Hello there, the account you are posting from is only three weeks old and I see an active site (latest post 28 April) at your WordPressdotcom address at voiceatheletedystonia.wordpress.com

What exactly did you transfer from WordPressdotcom to SiteGround and who did that transfer?

  • Unknown's avatar

Sitteground transferred my bog but not my stats or list of followers. There is no follow button on new site

  • Unknown's avatar

Can my stats and followers be transferred to my new site please? My new site only shows a few hits, my old wordpress.com site show almost 1000 and 19 different countries. Can this be transferred across.

  • Unknown's avatar

Plus my followers and a follow button. Also please advise how I set up a FAQ area. Thanks

  • Unknown's avatar

Can this be sorted out please
I’m still waiting for a reply

I’ve tagged this for Staff attention, but as it is the weekend things may be a bit slower than during the week. Please be patient.

If you want to move your stats and followers to your WP (org) install on SiteGround, you’ll need to first install the jetpack plugin on your other site following this guide https://move.wordpress.com/add-jetpack/ and then follow this guide to move your stats and subscribers https://move.wordpress.com/move-subscribers/

You can request Staff to help you with moving these, but you first need to install the jetpack plugin for that. Staff will also need to know the URL of your new domain on SiteGround.

Further help for self-hosted sites using the standalone WP (org) software can be found over at https://codex.wordpress.org/o Main_Page and at https://wordpress.org/support/ If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums, you can register one on that page.

I have jetpack plugin. I already followed guide but can’t do it. I do need staff assistance please. Is URL my domain name? It’s voiceathlete.co.uk
    Thanks

I have done everything you suggested. There is no migrate button despite having jetpack. It’s very frustrating, as nobody can follow me. My page has no menu to allow people to ask FAQ and leave comments. I have been trying to set this up all day. I have followed everything the site tells me to do and nothing appears on the page. Can you please give me a timeline when this will be fixed please? I know it’s the weekend, but I need this done ASAP as I can’t do it myself. Also do all my email followers have to resubscribe once my page is working properly? I was told they did not. But it says they do on your site!! Very conflicting.Thank You

    Hi voiceatheletedystonia,

I’ve migrated both your stats and followers over to voiceathlete.co.uk.

Please keep in mind that while your email subscribers will continue to receive email notifications of new posts as before, WordPress.com followers will only see new posts in the Reader. They will not receive email updates unless they subscribe to receive those on your new site.

Come back to me if you have any questions.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank You. Where is the follow button so new people can subscribe? Also, how do I set up Q&A that is clearly set out at top of page
    Juliana

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, someone has just emailed me and said they can’t subscribe to my site. Also my Q&A is not thete.
I can’t write until there is a subscribe button like I had with WordPress.com

  • Unknown's avatar

PLEASE add a follow/ subscribe button to my page!!

    Hello again,

The change from COM to ORG can be frustrating at first, but once you have moved (and Staff have assisted in transferring your stats and subscribers for you), you’ll need to continue from here with assistance in the the ORG and Jetpack support forums and your web hosting provider (SiteGround). WordPressdotcom (where we are) and WP.org are separate entities in spite of the name. Each have their own support documentation and forums.

Help for self-hosted sites using the standalone WP (org) software can be found over at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page and at https://wordpress.org/support/ If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums, you can register one on that page.

The Jetpack Support guide can be found at https://jetpack.com/support/ and there’s a forum especifically for jetpack issues at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack

If you want to add a subscription button, you can enable the Jetpack Subscription module. Here’s more on that. https://jetpack.com/support/subscriptions/

Good luck with your new site and best wishes.

  • Unknown's avatar

I have already done that and there is still no subscribe button. Can you do it or not?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello again, Looking at your site I see that subscriptions are enabled below each comment box and also see multiple subscription widgets in the footer and sidebar so it looks like you’ve got this working successfully.

    Again, best wishes.

  • Hi –

Removed the Modlook tag. It doesn’t look like any staff assistance is needed here.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you. All I need assistance with is sharing my blog on Instagram. I downloaded the Instagram feed but it still won’t share

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello again, I understand the frustrations of setting up a new site, but as I mentioned before, once you have moved away from WordPressdotcom to your own site using the standalone WP (org) software, you’ll need to seek assistance in the the ORG or Jetpack support forums (linked in my earlier reply) and with your web hosting provider (SiteGround). We really aren’t able to help you here other than to point you to the relevant support sites.

WordPressdotcom (where we are) and WP.org are separate entities in spite of the name. Each have their own support documentation and forums.

Again, best wishes for your new site.
