  Hello! I would like to create a site with subscription and payment options for my clients. I currently have the website on wix.com but would like to transfer once I have the website ready to go live on WordPress – if I have to transfer before I am ready, then my website will be unaccessible for the time it takes to design the new website.

  Hi there,

  That is not an issue – what you could do is create a site with a free WordPress.com blog address. You are assigned a .wordpress.com or a .home.blog subdomain whenever you create a site with WordPress.com, so you can just use that as the domain as you build the site and determine whether or not this is the platform you want to use. The site starts off private until you are ready to launch it.

  

  

  Once you are done developing the site, you can make the decision to transfer the domain over:

  https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/

  map an existing domain:

  https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

  Or even creating a new one:

  https://en.support.wordpress.com/register-domain/

  Just checked and on the page with the different plans on offer, I don’t appear to have the option of a free site. The option is not visible

  Yeah, for some reason, I have seen that the free site link sometimes doesn’t show up initially and then shows up after a refresh. Is what happened to you?

  When I click on the link you provided I get Step 1 of 2 Give your site an address. Typing a word or phrase (not a full domain address) at the top and a free site will be offered below to two paid for options. You can tinker with the offered free address before accepting.

  Final question if I may; Once I have a paid website up and running, will I be able to receive payments online for my products and services?
