Transfer a .com.au domain / have a own server

  Hi community,
  I am about to get started with WordPress but I would like to be sure I will be able to transfer the existing domain of my website (.com.au) to here, because apparently is not always possible.

  Would it be able to export to another host and have my own server, but using themes and accessories of WordPress?
