Transfer a domain to wordpress

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I have a domain hosted by another service provider and I would like it to be tranferred to WordPress, i.e. buy the full domain package. But WordPress interface does not allow this option: you can only buy a NEW domain or host a domain managed elsewhere.
How can I do that ?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers. What is possible is purchasing an annually renewable $13. per year domain mapping upgrade to map to an existing domain.

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.

See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

    thanks for your answer.

But if the domain transfer is not possible, either I will find another provider or I’ll stay where I am. I could accept to do the external mapping during some transition, but not forever.
My current hosting provider offers WP software too, therefore I don’t really need to change. I wanted to switch to wordpress.com hosting but not at any price.

I’m glad what I posted assisted you to comprehend exactly what can and what cannot be done here. Best wishes.
