Transfer all files from 10 years of self-hosted?
-
Hi,
I’ve had a self-hosted WP site since 2005. I’ve moved it a few times to different hosts over the years. When I did this, I had to FTP content folders with lists of images, etc.
My question is if I move to a professional account at WP.com will these folders all come over or will they come up as broken links/ images?
Thanks,
Tom

Hi there,
We do not provide FTP access on WordPress.com, so you cannot upload your site directly to our servers.
To move your content to us you’ll need to get an export file of your content at Tools ->Export in WP-Admin. If your site has a lot of content, please use the incremental export feature to export several smaller files as we have a file size limit of 15MB.
The resulting .xml files can be imported at My Site ->Import to your WordPress.com site, and after the import completes we attempt to also transfer any images referenced in your posts to your media library on WordPress.com, so the self-hosted site needs to be online during this process for it to work correctly.
