Transfer and Advertising

If in the future, I am thinking of running advertising and Adwords on my blog. Do I have to move to another hosting company and get a plug in? I bought my domain through Dreamhost, but decided to have WordPress host it while I was getting started. I have paid for a year subscription with wordpress, so if I do transfer it back to Dreamhost and get a plug in, is my subscription still valid? Would this switch allow me to sell/run ads?
    Thanks.

Yes, you will have to get paid hosting elsewhere.

What upgrades did you get with WordPress.com? There’s no such thing as a “subscription.”

Oh ya, sorry, I got the premium upgrade for a year. So basically if I switch back to Dreamhost and install the WordPress plugin, I will be able to do whatever I want in regards to advertising AND my upgrade carries over?

The only part of the package that would transfer would be the domain name registration (you can change the name servers to oint to your new host and stay registered here) – the rest of the upgrade package is not applicable or in some cases built into a WordPress.ORG install (edit CSS would be built in for example)

I will be able to do whatever I want in regards to advertising

Sort of – every Host has a terms of service you need to abide by – you should be able to sell ads – generally the TOS covers you can’t do things that are not legal in the area – no running a site for Escorts is a common exclusion
