Hey there,
Happy to help you with this, and it’s probably a good idea to add some context about your current set up.
There are two types of WordPress. The first is WordPress.com, which is a managed hosting solution that pretty much takes care of everything including, updates, securities, domains and we can offer advice where we can through our support services.
The second is self-hosted WordPress, which is where the free open source software is downloaded from WordPress.org, and installed on a hosting provider. There’s a bit more on the differences here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ and the two are considered separate.
Currently, you’re utilising self-hosted WordPress, from WordPress.org. Hostamada have installed this on your behalf (most likely) and their responsibility will predominantly sit with keeping the site live – not actually building the site.
I need to get all of that and my blog together and I have no idea how to do it.
Happy to help guide you on this – can you start by telling me more about the site you’re looking to build, what features you require and what you’re hoping visitors to site are going to do please? We’ll make some suggestions and guide you with next steps.
I hope this helps so far.

I have installed WP through HostArmada using softoculus(sp?). Now I need to get this WP info onto their hosting or linked to it or whatever.

Hi there,
Now I need to get this WP info onto their hosting or linked to it or whatever.
You can’t link your WordPress.com site with a self-hosted WordPress.org site because the two are completely different and separate from one another. You basically have to choose between hosting your site with WordPress.com or hosting with another host (like HostArmada).
Did you have a chance to check out this page? https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
It will give you an overview of the differences between the two. It will also help you decide what is better for you.
Since you haven’t started working on your site yet, we’d love to learn more about the site you want to build. Would you like to share a little bit about your site with us? What’s the site for? What features (like e-commerce) do you need on your site?
Learning about your overall site goals will help us understand what you need. We have various WordPress.com plans that cater to different needs. If you get started with your site here, you won’t have to juggle between two separate sites. Everything can be here with us, and we can help you with your site. (Plans like WordPress.com Premium and Business give you access to live chat support, so you can chat with us about your site with one of those plans.)

I have started my blog on the free version of WP that’s not self hosted. I purchased hosting through HostArmada. Is there not a way to import the posts I have already made to the new hosting? I keep getting told different things each time I talk to someone different. I don’t want to lose what I’ve already posted so how do I keep it AND have it on the new web hosting??
is it just a matter of using the new hosting, starting from fresh and just redirecting to the old stuff on my original WP as needed?
I’m sorry if I’m making this more confusing than it needs to be. I’m very confused and getting frustrated with the process. -
Hello –
I can appreciate how confusing and hard it is to get started. Thank you for asking questions so we can help you get things squared away.
From what I am reading, you have created some posts on a free WordPress.com site and need to know if you can move that content on to a different site that’s hosted elsewhere. Did I understand that correctly? The answer is yes, anything you create on WordPress.com is yours. You can move it through the export process at any time. https://wordpress.com/support/export/ Creating an export will not remove it from your free site with us. And your free site never expires. That content will continue to be hosted with us unless you remove it or delete the site. Having the same information on the internet through 2 different websites though might impact how search engine traffic finds your project and that’s a consideration to work out down the road once things are more settled.
What I’m curious about is why you want to move the content? Bargain hosting solutions are often times more of a headache than anything because you spend so much time on troubleshooting the things that we have built in to our service here. These are really important things that need constant attention for your site’s performance and security.
On WordPress.com our team offers a managed hosting environment. This means that we handle all the back end details of the site. Things like back ups, updates, security, spam, seo, ssl, mobile optimization, top notch hosting specs, and sorting out any errors or bugs that pop up along the way. When you run a stand alone WordPress installation, like what y’all have set up, then all of those details fall on to you – so instead of being able to focus on content you spend a ton of time and frustration fixing these sort of issues.

Yes. This is what I’m trying to do. I’m sorry that I’m talking in circles!!
I went on the advice of a few fellow bloggers that HostArmada would be a cheaper way to start out since I am not yet monetizing my blog.
I have managed to get the export but have no idea what to do with it once the export file is in my email.
At this point, HostArmada is telling me to just start over using a new WP there.
I know I’m not the only person that has gone through this lol. I’m just being the most difficult lol. -
I’m not familiar with HostArmada or the level of support they will offer you when help is needed. We don’t have any access to their system to help you figure out how to add that file you exported from us on to the site you have with them. That’s a big consideration in my mind when starting out on a new project that you’re not familiar with, you’re going to need help. Yes, it might be a little cheaper up front, and that comes at a trade off though.
You mentioned monetizing your blog eventually. I would ask HostArmada what type of SEO tools they offer. Does your domain come with a built in SSL certificate? Or are they charging you extra for these sort of features that you need?
With WordPress.com you’re able to use our WordAds program to facilitate monetization as part of the premium plan.
