Transfer blog to self hosted website.
-
I am trying to transfer my blog to a self-hosted server. How do I transfer themes I have already purchased, as well as any other setting I currently have on my wordpress blog? (i.e. username, password, purchased wordpress bundles, etc.). I would like to keep all of this information and not have to repurchase themes and bundles. Is that possible?

Premium Themes and Bundles are customized for WordPress.com usage only, and cannot be transferred to self-hosted WordPress.org sites.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.

Thanks kardotim. I keep rethinking what I am doing because this link here says I can upload themes. I’m assuming that means basic themes and not premium.
When I move my blog to a self hosted site, is there no possible way for me to include my premium theme that I’ve recently purchased? and if no, what options do I have to maintain the same look and feel of my blog now when I make the move?
-
Premium Themes are customized for WordPress.com usage only, and cannot be transferred to self-hosted WordPress.org sites. If you want to maintain the look at a WordPress.org installation, you will need to repurchase the theme of the theme author.
There are no restrictions if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities. We have hosting recommendations at the following link if you are interested.

Ok, I understand. Thank you for the additional help. I also have a separate but related question. As I am moving my current wordpress.com blog to a self-hosted site, can you tell me specifically what needs to be done to ensure I do not loose SEO rankings and traffic?
Also, is it necessary for me to purchase the wordpress redirect plugin to ensure my emails and other important assets are redirecting correctly?
-
As long as you keep the same domain redirected to your new hosting provider, there will be minimum impact on your search engine ranking
Site Redirect only directs your WordPress.com blog URL to your new blog elsewhere.

Ok. Thank you for the quick response. I’ve transferred the original wordpress domain, mattalbertsphotography.com to a new hosting provider, 1and1.com. Is that what you mean when you say “keeping the same domain redirected to your new hosting provider”?
Also, as far as emails go, if I set up the same email address with my new hosting provider, is there anything else that needs to be done so that emails originally sent to the wordpress.com domain address are properly redirected to the new hosting provider domain? Any help here is greatly appreciated.

No, your new hosting provider should take care of that for you.

Also, I need to transfer my followers from my wordpress.com blog to my new self hosted wordpress.org site. Can you help me with that?
The current wordpress.org site URL is: mattalbertsphotography.com

Hm, that is a rather large number. With that amount, it might take a while.
I recommend checking again tomorrow. -
Yeah I got freshly pressed one time and I got a ton of followers from that, so I would love to keep them all if possible.
I just checked this morning and it still has only transfered 304 of my followers. Any suggestions?
-
To be honest, I’ve never really transferred that many subscribers before, so while I know it will take a long time, I’m not sure how long.
It appears to still be in progress. Has then been any increase since the 304?

Hi,
Just checking back in.. My other 500 followers have still not transfered over? Is there anything else we can do? That is a ton of followers that will no longer get my blog updates.Thank you!
