Transfer blog to wordpress.org hosted by GoDaddy?

    Hi. I want to do a guided transfer to my wordpress.org site hosted by GoDaddy, however GoDaddy isn’t listed under the “recommended hosts” in the guided transfer information. Do the Happiness Engineers do guided transfers to GoDaddy hosted sites? Thanks for your help.

    Perhaps you would like to do the move on your own. https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

    To move your content you need to create an XML export file of your content. It will not include the theme as they cannot be exported.

    1. Hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/

    2. Set up a WordPress.org install and equip it with a theme and plugins.
    http://wordpress.org/themes/
    http://wordpress.org/plugins/

    3. Export your content out of your WordPress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ and import it into the install.

    4. Purchase a site redirect upgrade from wordpress.com
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/ or if you have domain mapping then update the nameservers http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-management/

    5. Transfer subscribers and stats. See http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/moving-your-subscribers/

    6. Set your wordpress.com blog visibility to private. To change blog visibility to private go to > Settings > Reading scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 3 . See the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

    NOTE: WordPress.com and WordPress.org have different log-ins and run different versions of themes with same names. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

    Thank you. I’ve already read those documents and I’d rather pay for the guided transfer and have it done right. That’s why I’m asking if the Happiness Engineers will do guided transfers to hosts other than those listed on the documentation, such as GoDaddy, who offers WordPress hosting.

    Thanks, timethief. I appreciate that.

    My main concern is not losing the followers and subscribers I have at my blog. From my understanding of the guided transfer, there’s an option to have the transition to a new blog be seamless.

    Is there any other way to contact or get the attention of the Happiness Engineers or mods? This seems like a straightforward question that shouldn’t require much effort to answer.

    There are few Staff and many bloggers. There are pages of bloggers threads waiting for help with their issues who posted long before you did. This thread is tagged for Staff and they have a backlog. What’s required is your patience as Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention and through all email support tickets in chronological order based on datestamps and timestamps – first posted first served, as would be expected.

    How long it takes to clear the threads and support tickets depends on how many Happiness Engineers are working on them at any given point in time. It also depends on how complex the issues in each thread and ticket are are.

    Please don’t bump your thread here by posting into it again because it’s not in your best interest to post to it after it has been tagged for Staff help. Doing that moves the timestamps forward and it takes longer to get a response.

    Hi Amy,

    I see you had your question answered in a private email, but I’ll answer here as well in case others have the same question: Guided Transfer is only offered when users are moving to one of our recommended hosts and GoDaddy is not currently on that list.
