Transfer certain posts to a new blog?
-
I’ve run out of space on one blog, and want to transfer ‘old’ posts (3 years ago) to a new ‘archive’ blog.
Is this possible and if so how? I don’t want to have to re-write/re-upload the photos!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there. You can transfer posts from one blog to another by using the export/import function under Tools in the dashboard. When exporting, you can specify to export only posts for a specific time frame. Media files take a bit longer than the posts themselves to move, so make very sure that all your images are in the new blog’s media library (not just appearing in posts) before you start deleting anything from your original blog.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/You can also consider buying the space upgrade. That will give you additional media storage: http://en.support.wordpress.com/space-upgrade/
Just an observation: I picked an image from your latest post and I see it’s 1944×2592 pixels big with a filesize of 1.9Mb. The actual display size of the image in the post is only 225×300 pixels with a filesize of 46kb. This means your uploaded image is about 44 times bigger than you actually need it to be. If all your images are around 2Mb, that means the vast majority of your media storage space has been wasted.
You can recover three quarters, if not more, of your media storage space by simply replacing all your images with optimised (that is, resized) images that are only as big as they have to display on your posts. However, that’s going to take more than just a while. You can’t simply resize your photos in the media library editor, but will have to resize them offline and re-upload them to replace the existing images (deleting the existing image in the process), so you might not feel that’s worth the trouble.
But keep it in mind with future photos you upload: don’t upload a photo any bigger than you need it to display on your blog. More here:

Hello Kokkieh! Thank you SO much for your detailed help! Hmm, I hadn’t realised about the photo display stuff – I think when I started the blog it was possible to click an image to see the original full size full mb photo (?!) so I uploaded them as regular out-of-camera shots. Recently I checked my site on a pc and that doesn’t seem to happen now, even though it does on my iphone! Confusing …
Anyway I think for now I’ll just go for the space upgrade – I have a whole summer of photos waiting to be blogged! It’s not so expensive really I suppose :)
I will fiddle around with settings to display larger photos I think, and try to compress them! I only have a tablet and an iphone at the moment, I hope I can find a good photo compression app! Hmm …
Eventually re-uploading photos does sound a good idea, one day … With a pc!!
Thanks again for your help!!!

Oh, I thought just a little extra storage was $10 a year, not €100 …
The perils of reading websites when half asleep!!Perhaps I’ll just work on resizing photos ….

That is still possible. When inserting the image you can select where it should link when clicked, and if you select the Media File option it will open the full size image. That’s how I was able to download a full size image from your site to check the file size. But even in that case your images are too big to display on a standard screen, and the extra size is just wasted space.
I hope I can find a good photo compression app!
The last article I linked to above deals with just that. That blogger recommends a website called JPEGmini to slim down image files without changing the image size. I can recommend that entire blog for photo-blogging advice.
Just remember, any resizing and compression must be done before you upload your images. Resizing images already uploaded won’t help, as the media library will still retain a copy of the original in case you want to undo changes later.
