Transfer commercial website from GoDaddy to WordPress

  We already have a long standing commercial website with almost 800 items for sale. It is hosted on Go Daddy and most everything is done by the webmaster using PHP. We wish to move the site to a WordPress site with Woo Commerce and Paypal taking over with’Just Add COmmerce’ does now. The old site needs to remain operational as is, administered by the current webmaster until the new WordPress site is up and running. Est time approx 8-10 weeks. What do I need to set up to start creating the new WordPress site while the old site remains active for all that time?

  The old site GoDaddy account belongs to the webmaster, not to us. Do we purchase our own GoDaddy account or can we operate completely from WordPress?

  No problem. You’re welcome to stage your new site with us before pointing the domain here. That way your current site can stay “live” until your new one is ready.

  You’ll want to add a plan that supports e-commerce, so you’ll have access to those features:
  https://wordpress.com/plans

  Then just avoid using the domain options until you’re ready, and then you can map or transfer the domain.

  If you don’t own the domain and can’t control its settings, you could run into issues once the site goes live here. So you’ll want to be sure that any ownership disputes are settled beforehand.
