  Is there a reason why I have to transfer or connect to WordPress. Can I do without this while I’m setting up my site?

  Hello,

  You can create a WordPress.com site before transferring the domain.

  You can check out the plans and its pricing on the below page and select any plan to get started:
  https://wordpress.com/pricing/

  And whenever you feel that your site ready, you can transfer your domain name to your new WordPress.com site.

  Hi there,

  You can create a new WordPress.com site without transferring or connecting your domain, yes.

  All sites on WordPress.com get a free WordPress.com or .blog subdomain when the site is created, that functions just like any regular subdomain, and your site is fully online and accessible at that subdomain (provided you set it to public).

  So you can experiment and build your site at that free address, even upgrade the site while still using the free address, and only switch the domain over to us once you’re ready.
