How do I transfer a domain to an existing site on my account? Went with this tutorial (https://wordpress.com/support/domains/move-a-domain-to-another-wordpress-com-site/#step-two-move-the-domain) but upgrades > domains does not have anything for me to click on

If you’re ready to add a domain right away, I’d recommend adding it there, choosing to connect it and update its settings accordingly:

It doesn’t seem to work. Does it only work for paid subscriptions or are free websites entitled to it as well?
I was thinking about a workaround where I ask support to make the site name available after deleting the 2nd website… Do you think that could work?

Hmm. Deleting the one you want complicates things, because it does not “free it up”… it would have to be restored, then we could start again where we are now.
Also, you said “transfer domain” which is generally a paid upgrade, but it sounds like we might not mean the same thing. Please send a link to the address you want to transfer, and any more context you can about what you’re hoping to do.

Ahhh, sorry for the mix up and thanks for helping me out! I want to switch the free domains “silkdefi.wordpress.com” and “fundsandnotes.wordpress.com”.
So I made a name change a while back where I probably turned on the “create a blog under the new name” feature and so it created silkdefi and I’ve had fundsandnotes for a while now.
Now I want fundsandnotes to be named as silkdefi instead. There are no contents in silkdefi but there are some in fundsandnotes. Any ways to do this other than just moving over the contents from fundsandnotes into silkdefi?

When both sites exist, no there’s not really a way to switch them over except to export and import the content. It’s really not too bad though when both sites are hosted here.

Export all content, then import that file into
https://wordpress.com/import/silkdefi.wordpress.comYou’ll need to style up the new site (logo, theme, etc) as you’d like, but your pages, posts, comments, and media from those will transfer over.
Also, if you want links to the old address to redirect people to the new address, you can set that up here:
https://wordpress.com/domains/add/site-redirect/fundsandnotes.wordpress.comIt’s $13/year; IMO it’s best to get it for at least the first year so search engines know to update the site. They’ll get a signal to update their links. Then you could just put up a message on the old site that says go to the new site.
