Transfer domain?
-
I read the article about how to transfer but the article omitted the financial part.
If I transfer a domain from GoDaddy.com to WordPress and that domain renews at GoDaddy in February 2024, will I have to pay for that registration at WordPress before Feb 2024?
Second question: I have email through Google for this domain. Once I transfer, will I need to make changes to my legacy Google email account for this domain. If so, can you tell me how?
Thank you.WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: No
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Firstly, when you transfer a domain from GoDaddy.com to WordPress.com, we charge a fee that also extends your domain’s registration by one year from its current expiration date. So, even if your domain is set to renew at GoDaddy in February 2024, you won’t have to worry about renewing it until February 2025 after transferring it to WordPress.com.
However, it’s also good to know that if you purchase any of our annual plans, the domain transfer cost will be waived. In addition, your domain will still be renewed for another year at no extra cost, which makes it an excellent value.
On to your second question about your email hosted with Google. When a domain is transferred, you will indeed need to update the domain’s records for your Google email to continue functioning properly. Don’t worry, it’s not as technical as it sounds, and we have a handy guide to walk you through the process. You can find it here: https://wordpress.com/support/add-email/add-email-through-google-workspace/
Please know that our team is here to help should you have any questions or run into any issues during this process. We’re committed to making this transition as smooth as possible for you. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need any further assistance.
