Transfer domain from GoDaddy

  Hi there,

  I have purchased a domain from goDaddy. I have unlocked the domain and I have also got the authorization code. I get three green ticks and when I hit continue, it still asks me to pay $56. Can you please help me understand why I should pay this?

  Thank you for your reply. Yes, I followed the above steps and still I’m still asked to pay $56.

  Hi kumaravelkartikeyan,

  Just to clarify, for you to transfer domain to WordPress.com, you should have an upgraded WordPress.com plan. If you are on the free WordPress.com plan, you will be asked to upgrade to one of the plans – WordPress.com Personal plan or above.

  A certain plan is being added to your domain transfer process and that’s the reason you see the charge.

  I am also tagging the post with “modlook” for the WordPress.com staff’s attention. They should confirm this is the case.

  Hi there,

  As @strikebuys already said, you will need an upgraded WordPress.com plan on your site in order to transfer in a domain. Each paid plan comes with a free domain credit you can use to either register a new domain or transfer/map one you already own.

  The $56 you’re being asked to pay are $48 for the Personal plan and $8 for the domain’s privacy protection.

  Once you complete the purchase the transfer process will start.

  Awesome, thanks heaps for clarifying. Just few more points that I would like to have clarity on:
  1. Once I make the payment and do the transfer. My blog url will change from http://www.xyz.wordpress.com to http://www.xyz.com. Am I correct?
  2. Once I make the payment, can I create an email address for the same? For example: (email visible only to moderators and staff)?

  Apologies for such trivial questions. I’ve just started to play around with wordpress.

  Exactly. You’ll be able to use the domain you transferred here to mask your .wordpress.com address.
