transfer domain from SpiritDomains to WP

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello there!
Last week I bought the domain oshocampus.com on WP platform.
I own the blog http://www.oshocampus.wordpress.com, and I wanted it to change into http://www.oshocampus.com (I own this too).
The domain of oshocampus.com is registered on SpiritDomains, and I need to transfer it to WP.

Please help me to transfer from SpiritDomains to WP. I’m getting mad! :)

One week ago, after the payment, I followed step by step WP instructions on how to change DNS (which is the main problem to solve).
I logged in the spiritdomains website, and I changed the old DNS:
    dns1.spiritdomains.com
    dns2.spiritdomains.com
    dns3.spiritdomains.com
    dns4.spiritdomains.com

    into the new ones:
    DNS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    DNS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    DNS3.WORDPRESS.COM

but it’s not working. And I really cannot find a solution!
I hope I explained well my problem.

    Looking forward your step-by-step help!

The blog I need help with is oshocampus.wordpress.com.

I wanted to add a note:
on spiritdomains I have a renewal that expires on nov. 1st, 2014.
Maybe this info is useful for you.

    Greetings
    Franco

Last week I bought the domain oshocampus.com on WP platform

The domain of oshocampus.com is registered on SpiritDomains, and I need to transfer it to WP

Bit confusing but regardless, WordPress.com does not accept incoming domain transfers.

You can use a domain you own with your WordPress.com website after purchasing the domain mapping upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Please read that Support page carefully and follow its instructions step-by-step, including purchase of the upgrade.

You will also want to read the notes on this page before upgrading: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading

    Hello justjennifer,
    thank you for your reply.
Actually, I did “map an existing domain”…

The nameservers for oshocampus.com are pointing to

    Name Server: NS1.WEBCONTROLCENTER.COM
    Name Server: NS2.WEBCONTROLCENTER.COM

You need to remove those at your current domain registrar and point your domain to these instead:
    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

This morning I updated those nameservers (at 10.30am italian time), and I need to wait up to 72 hours to see the effects…

Let’s see! I’ll let you know if it works :)
    Thank you!

Hopefully you changed them to the WordPress.com nameservers as I have written them above, “NS1, NS2, NS3”.

According to the WHOIS search I did on your domain today, the nameservers for oshocampus.com are still showing as

    Name Server: NS1.WEBCONTROLCENTER.COM
    Name Server: NS2.WEBCONTROLCENTER.COM

You need to remove those at your current domain registrar and point your domain to these instead:
    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

    Hi Justjennifer,
I don’t understand: before I update the name servers, on spiritdomains were written these name servers:
    dns1.spiritdomains.com
    dns2.spiritdomains.com
    dns3.spiritdomains.com
    dns4.spiritdomains.com

    (not NS1.WEBCONTROLCENTER.COM… ect…)

    and I changed them into:
    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

but it’s still not pointing to WP…. does the small caps make a difference? or what?

Sorry to bother you again, JustJennifer.
I wanted to explain more clearly my problem:

    I own http://www.oshocampus.com with a old content.
    and also
    I own http://www.oshocampus.wordpress.com with a new content.

I want to let go the old content of oshocampus.com and keep the domain name for the new content which is on the domain oshocampus.wordpress.com at the moment.

    How to do it?

    I hope I explained well :)

    Thank for help!

You have domain mapping – but some sort of a problem with the name servers – I looked at several things – but why the name servers are not changing is a mystery to me

I would contact who ever you registered the domain with and ask them why the name servers don’t seem to be changing – sometimes people are putting info in the wrong box – there have been a few times where they were contacting the wrong company

I have also flagged this for the staff – maybe they can see something Jen & I are missing

    Hi there,

No there’s nothing additional which I can see on my end. You just need to contact your domain registrar directly and get them to change your nameservers to:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

Once you do the domain should go live in a few hours!

Thank you both for your input here. :)

    Hello there,
I just wrote to the SpiritDomains’ staff… Let’s see what happens.
I’ll let you know, and thank so much for your help!

    Hello!,
2 week are gone and my website isn’t show properly what I need to show. I had zero contact from the Spiritdomains’ Staff.
Is anything I can do on my WP dashboard?

  • Unknown's avatar

Nothing can happen if you can’t change the nameservers at your domain registrar.

I would log in again at spiritdomains and look at your domain control panel and how you’ve set up the DNS pointers.
