Transfer Domain from Wix

    I am having a hard time transferring my domain purchased via Wix. I logged into my back office at wix to change the Name servers, and it doesn’t allow me to enter in the WordPress.com name servers. I received an e-mail with a code from Wix to enter at WordPress.com, but do not see a place to enter this code to make the transfer. I have tried watching your domain tutorial and read multiple articles. Can you point me in the right direction?

    Hi!

    First, please refrain from posting your authorization code for your domain transfer in a public forum. With that code, anyone could theoretically transfer your domain. I went ahead and removed it from your original post.

    Regarding the transfer, it isn’t possible to transfer domains into WordPress.com. We aren’t setup to accept incoming transfers. Domains can either be registered through us originally or you can map your domain.

    For this particular circumstance, I recommend transferring your domain to another registrar like Bluehost or Dreamhost. Then, you can change the name servers to point to WordPress.com.

    An alternative would be to set a custom A record or IP address to point your domain to WordPress.com as described in the Wix support here:

    In this instance, you wouldn’t need to transfer your domain. You would just need to set the following A records:

    192.0.81.250
76.74.254.123
76.74.254.120
192.0.80.250
66.155.11.238
66.155.9.238

    You’ll want to set at least two records.

    Can you give either one of those options a try?

    Ok, thank you. I didn’t realize that I was posting to a public forum. I thought this was a customer service contact form.

    We will let Wix continue to host the domain. We have already mapped the domain to WordPress.com, and paid the $13. Now, is the A record something we set on WordPress.com’s side, or on Wix’s side, or both? And we will not be doing anything with the name-servers then if I’m understanding this correctly?

    That’s something you would need to setup with Wix. It looks like you may have already done this as your domain is currently displaying your WordPress.com site!

    Correct! The name servers will stay pointed to Wix.
