I have domain name through web.com. If I go premium can I transfer that name to WordPress account? It is rustamkuchkorov.com. I want it to be the same on WordPress. I assume I can do it if I upgrade to premium right?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When you are domain mapping it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com blog URL is. They do not have to match.

The Premium upgrade bundle does include a domain mapping upgrade. Premium bundle details http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/

Read Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading

WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible. Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it and the domain mapping purchase here every year.

Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually and a domain name purchase and domain mapping are included in the Premium ujpgrade bundle.

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL.

If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and as you own that domain already you can see here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

It can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

P.S. As there is a small $5 price difference ie. a reduction when we purchase a domain elsewhere I’m tagging this thread for a Staff follow-up. Thanks. What if I just cancel my subsription (i.e. My domain name) on web.com and repurchase the same domain name through WordPress.com which will be available. Would it be better way to solve this issue?

    No! Do not do that.

    Hi there!

Timethief is totally right — don’t cancel that domain, if you want to continue using it! If you cancel a domain, there is no guarantee that you’ll be able to gain control of it again.

If you want to use your custom domain with your WordPress.com site, you’ll need to add the domain mapping upgrade here at WordPress.com. You can do that here:
    https://wordpress.com/domains/add/rustamkuchkorov.wordpress.com

Make sure that you are choosing the upgrade in the bottom box — Upgrading a Domain you already own (rather than trying to register a new domain). Follow all the instructions given.

After you complete the step above, you’ll need to update the name servers with your domain registrar. You can keep your domain where it is, or move it to a new registrar, but it needs to “point” to your WordPress.com site.

The name servers for WordPress.com are:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

If you’re not sure how to change them, please contact your registrar for assistance.

Once you have updated the name servers, it may take up to 48 hours for the domain to be pointed to your WordPress.com site.

I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!
