Transfer Domain name
-
I originally registered a domain name with WordPress.com. I was attempting to cancel the use of it on WordPress.com, so I could use that domain name elsewhere, with another web hosting provider. I therefore canceled my premium plan with WordPress, and changed the name of my domain. I believed this would free up the original domain name for my use elsewhere.
I am attempting now to transfer it to Bluehost. I cannot find the domain name anymore on my WordPress account. I need to unlock the domain name to transfer it.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Staff assistance will be required here (by adding modlook to the tag box which I have done). Perhaps things can be reversed. Was the domain http://gerriwettahilger.com and attached to the deleted http://gerriwettahilger.wordpress.com ?
Deleting a paid plan along with its domain doesn’t free up the domain for immediate use elsewhere. It still has to be in your account here to transfer it and even then 60 days need to have passed.

Hi gerrihilger,
I cannot find the domain name anymore on my WordPress account.
gerriwettahilger.com is no longer listed in your account because you cancelled the domain.
I am attempting now to transfer it to Bluehost.
It’s not possible to transfer a domain you do not own so I would need to restore it for you first.
Newly registered domains can only be transferred 60 days after the registration date. This 60 day lock is required by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and cannot be waived. However, the domain can be pointed to your Bluehost site until it is ready for transfer. I can send you instructions for this if it’s something you would like to do.
The other option is to wait until the domain is released on it’s original expiry date in 2018. However, this is the riskier option as you may not be the first to register it again.
If you would like me to restore the domain, just reply to confirm.
Thanks!

Hello gemmacevans,
Yes, I would like help pointing the domain name to Bluehost site until the 60 day registration lock is over. Please tell me how. Thanks.

Hi gerrihilger,
Thanks for confirming. I’ve restored gerriwettahilger.com to your site:
https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/
The name servers for the domain can now be pointed to Bluehost using these steps:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/change-name-servers/
It can take up to 72 hours for name servers to fully update, so don’t worry if gerriwettahilger.com doesn’t point to Bluehost straight away.
I’m here if you have any questions.

Thank you very much. I just successfully pointed the domain name to our Bluehost name servers.
My questions now:
Can I go over to the Bluehost site I am working on and still design a website with that domain name?
What can I not do until the domain name is able to be transferred? I do not really understand the limitations of not being able to transfer it at this time. -
Howdy –
I’m following up for Gemma here.
Yes, you can build your site at BlueHost and when folks put the domain in their browser they are going to see the BlueHost site you’ve built and not the WordPress.com version.
Does that help clear things up?
