Transfer domain name

  I previously had a Tumblr site connected to my domain name and I am building a new WordPress site that I want to connect to that domain name instead. It says I am unable to ‘transfer’ but I can ‘connect’ which requires an annual plan. Can you please advise if there is a way to continue with my free WordPress site and connect to my domain name which is already paid for through next year? Thank you!
