Transfer domain name from GoDaddy

  Hi WordPress. I am trying to start building my site with you but need to move my domain name registration from GoDaddy into my account with you but the TRANSFER button is not live (it is still greyed out) so I cannot use it. Please help.

  Hi there!

  You do not have any WordPress.com sites under your account so you won’t be able to transfer a domain here.
  Create your site, choose the plan that best suits your needs and when you’re prompted to choose a domain, click on the “Use a domain I own” link.

  Hi Fresatomica. Thanks. I didn’t realise I had to create the site first. I was going through the steps and had reached Step 5 where the TRANSFER was requested. Should I try to skip that step and go on to create the site without it?

  Oh, in that case, you should be able to transfer the domain as when you’re done with the steps, you will have created a site.

  What’s the domain you’re trying to transfer?
  What you can also do is to choose a free subdomain (like one ending with .wordpress.com) and map or transfer your custom domain once your site is ready.
