Transfer domain name problems

    I need to transfer my domain name and when I try to do that, it tells me it sent an email to my email on file. However, it is not there. Looked in spam, looked at other email addresses I have. nothing. Now it says I may lose my domain name “forever” caused I’m not responding. I have ZERO computer skills so please answer my question like you are talking to someone very limited intellectually (words like configure and DNS and name server have no meaning to me). I’d perhaps to talk to a real person, but I guess that doesn’t happen very often, so if you could run through a few options, that would be great.
