Transfer Domain Name to Other WordPress.com Blog

    Hi!

    In January I became editor for pcpj.org, a website that has existed for quite sometime but since a year back is hosted by wordpress.com (pcpj2.wordpress.com), with the older pcpj.org domain being remapped. In early February, the leadership of PCPJ decided to merge with another organization called Pax Pneuma, so I registered paxpneuma.org as a domain name for the site and made it the primary domain. This way, old links to pcpj.org go to paxpneuma.org.

    However, this weekend the board decided that PCPJ and Pax Pneuma will be independent organizations after all, and that the website I’m editing should go back to be called pcpj.org. The Pax Pneuma organization would like their own website, and obviously paxpneuma.org would be an ideal domain name. So, I’d like to remove the paxpneuma.org domain from the PCPJ site so it can be used for a site of its own (and yes, I know I have to wait 60 days).

    Ideally, I’d like to set up another free wordpress.com site, remap paxpneuma.org to it and then hand that over to those who are going to run that site. I don’t understand how to do this though. In the domain settings, I see four options:

    – End domain, which will take a year and won’t guarantee that the Pax Pneuma organization gets it
    – Transfer to another registrar, but the instructions doesn’t explicitly say that you can transfer it to another wordpress.com blog
    – transfer to another user, which seems to not solve the problem as the paxpneuma domain will still be “stuck” on the PCPJ site
    – move the domain using Custom A Records, which also doesn’t seem to work on another wordpress.com site.

    Is it simply impossible for me to move the paxpneuma.org to another wordpress.com site?

    Hi there,

    Only staff can move a domain between sites at this time.

    First, please create the new free site, or if the new site should be in its own account, a new username account with the site.

    https://wordpress.com/start/site/

    Once you’ve done this, let me know the new site’s free address, and I can move the domain over.

    If the new site is in a different account, after creating it you will need to transfer the domain to that account. As the domain owner, only you can do this:

    Once the domain is in the other account, let me know and I can attach it to the correct site.
