Transfer domain name to wordpress.org

Hello! I am currently using a blogging service (weebly) that I am not in love with. I am still getting to know WordPress and want to rebuild my entire site with wordpress.org. I already own my domain name (healthythankyoumoreplease.com) and I’m just a bit confused about how the transfer process would work. Can I rebuild my site on wordpress.org with a different domain name and then move my current one to a new site? And, when I begin that process, how long does it take between when I begin the transfer and when visitors would be brought to my new site?

This is WordPress.com. Is this actually the place you wish to move to? If you want a “wordpress.org” website then you’ll need to find some other host and add the software there.
