transfer domain or map domain?

    We bought our domain from Google. What option should I choose? ‘Transfer your domain away from your current registrar’, or ‘Map your domain without moving it from your current registrar’? Thank you!

    Hi there,

    Either option will work, and allow your site to have a custom address instead of the free “WordPress.com” URL we assign to your site.

    I would say that if you are looking to consolidate all your billing here on WordPress.com, it makes sense to transfer your domain to us. That way you do not need to remember to make renewal payments in two places (Google and WordPress.com) but can just renew it all here where your site is.

    If you manage a portfolio of domains, and not just a single domain, I think it makes sense to “map” the domain to us instead. It can also be the case you are unable to transfer your domain (if it is a new domain within the “60 day lock” for example) in which case mapping will allow you to connect now, and transfer later when you are able.
