Transfer domain to another blog

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

My client purchased a domain but it was mapped to his own personal blog.
Basically [redacted] was mapped to [redacted] blog and not to [redacted].
Please, is it possible for you to switch that domain to the new blog site?

    Thanks in advance!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Do you wish to map this domain [redacted] to this site [redacted]?

If yes, then you can follow the domain mapping guide –
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

Let us know if that works for you :)

    Hey,

The problem is that I get the following message:
Sorry, [redacted] is already mapped to another WordPress.com blog.
    Thoughts?

Hmm.. then there’s just one last thing to check –

Have you set your mapped domain to primary domain? More info on step 3 in the link I shared previously.

    Quote from that page –

Depending on the order that you add everything, you may want to head back over to Domains and make sure the domain you just mapped is set as your primary domain.

But if that doesn’t work, then I’m sure someone from the staff can take care of it for you. I’ll add the modlook tag here so they can check what’s wrong :)

    Thanks Omkar!
It seems its because it’s linked to the other blog. I think the only way is for someone to change it on the back end.

When I try to transfer the domain, I get the following message:
It is only possible to transfer a domain after 60 days after the registration date. This 60 day lock is required by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and cannot be waived.

    Hi @erlisdhima,

The message you are seeing about the 60 day lock means you cannot transfer a domain to another registrar (away from WordPress.com), for 60 days after registration. But as you want to use the domain on another WordPress.com site, this does not apply.

Basically [redacted] was mapped to [redacted] blog and not to [redacted].

The domain [redacted], is owned by another user (alexsvarjao) so I will need them to login and reply here to request the change. Once they’ve done so, I can move the domain to [redacted].

Come back to me if you have any questions.

    Hello @gemmacevans,

As Erlis told here, I purchased a domain but it was mapped to my own personal blog.
Basically [redacted] was mapped to my blog [redacted] blog and I need to [redacted].

Could you please help as to solve it?

    Hi @alexsvarjao,

Thanks for confirming. [redacted] has now been moved to [redacted] and set as your primary domain.

Come back to me if you have any questions.

    It works fine now!

    Hi @erlisdhima,

Glad to hear it’s working fine :)

Please, can you delete this topic? I noticed there’s no way to make it private.

The only instance we would delete a forum thread would be if it represented a valid security or personal safety concern. There is more information about forum policies in our WordPress.com Forums Community Standards:

As a compromise, I have redacted the URL’s of your sites — other forum visitors will not be able to see them.

Come back to me if you have any questions.
