Transfer domain to blue host

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I’m trying to transfer my domain to bluehost however when I go into ‘upgrade’ ‘domain’ and click on my url it only allows me to point it to a new site, not transfer. Can wordpress please take a look at my account and tell me what needs to be done to enable this option?

    Thank you, Shannon

    Hi there!

Are you referring to the domain confessionsofasaddletramp.com? It looks like you canceled the domain on the 13th of this month. A canceled domain can’t be transferred. Once a domain is canceled, it goes through a lengthy process of cancellation during which no changes can be made to the domain. Transferring a domain has to be done instead of canceling it.

I checked to see if we could restore the domain for you so that you could transfer it, but because the domain was canceled some days ago, it’s now in a stage called “redemption.” We can still restore the domain for you, but there’s an additional $80 redemption fee.

I understand it’s not ideal, but it’s not in our control. You can learn more about what happens after a domain is canceled here: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/#cancel-a-domain-name

It can be difficult to get a domain back after you have cancelled it. You should only cancel a domain if you are sure you no longer want it and are okay with the potential of someone else registering and using it. Once a domain is cancelled, it may go through the same redemption process as expired domains, and might incur a redemption fee ($80) if you want to restore it later.

We aren’t able to restore a domain without the redemption fee once the domain has entered this period. If you’d like to restore the domain, let us know and we’ll email you the payment request for $80.

You’ll be able to transfer the domain to another registrar of your choice once the domain has been restored.

    Regards

Thank you. However I did request on 8/13 that the cancellation be cancelled. Happy to supply that email if it helps.

What can be done to resolve this and wave the $80? The domain should have been reinstated on the 13th.

    Shannon

I checked with Support and the email exchange from that day was them reinstating your WordPress.com user account and reversing the deletion of the confessionsofasaddletramp.wordpress.com site, not recovering the domain. Your last reply on August 13 after they replied to you stating they reinstated the above was “Thank you” which is why nothing else was done.

We don’t control the redemption fees, as my colleague @aisajib noted, so at this point in time you would need to pay the redemption fee in order to recover the domain. You’ll be able to point it to a new host as soon as it’s recovered, then transfer the registration after the ICANN-required 60 day wait period expires.

Let us know if you want to proceed with the recovery and we’ll send that invoice over. Thanks.

Hi, yes that is correct. On 8/13 I requested both my account/site and my domain be recovered. The support team only responded to the account piece.

The email requesting to reinstate/recover my domain was sent on 8/13 at 2:50pm and was never responded to.

I understand this was my original mistake, but I did reach out to wordpress.com to help recover things within the timeframe allowed. If there is anything you can do to help address this without me having to pay a full $80 I’d really appreciate it.

Happy to forward that domain request over if you provide an email. Shannon
