Transfer domain to own server

  I’m a little confused as to how to go about exporting my blog to my own server. I have a domain of http://www.doyeaphotographyblog.com with WordPress. Do I transfer that to my server and hosting site first and than sign up for the transfer4free people?

  I can only suggest steps up to the point where you leave wordpress.com

  First and foremost export your blog content (Manage > Export)
  Don’t delete your blog on wordpress.com . You can have your images served from the unchanged location here, while the blog is already elsewhere.
  Initiate the domain transfer (be ready for a few days unavailability).

  From this point on http://wordpress.org/support/ is the proper place to consult.
