Transfer Domain to Squarespace
-
I am a web designer and my client recently renewed their contract with WordPress for another year on May 24th. However, we want to transfer their domain to Squarespace. Can they be refunded for the full amount?
-
They are the one that needs to do this by logging in to their account and going to “manage purchases” but they have probably missed the 96 hour domain refund window. Maybe best that they map the domain to the Squarespace site and transfer it when the 60 day unlock has been reached.
-
If we “map the domain to the Squarespace site”, will their domain be still hosted on WordPress, and still be charged fees?
And since it won’t allow their domain to be transferred to Squarespace until after 60 days, will that delay the site going live on Squarespace?

This thread is tagged for staff assistance. There is a 14 day refund window for the plan portion of the payment they made.Don’t cancel the domain if it is past the 96 hours as this complicates things leaving the domain in limbo. Yes you can map a domain immediately and transfer later. Once a domain is mapped it is hosted at the new host not the previous one.

It would help if the owner of the domain logged in here using the account that owns the domain (and the URL would help too).
-
If you cancel and refund a domain, you won’t be able to transfer it, as you’ll no longer own the domain.
Typically, the receiving registrar makes up for this by adding an additional year to the domain’s existing registration period.
-
This is the domain: http://Rcsquared.com
The client will keep the domain, just simply wants to transfer (or point) the domain to Squarespace.
The concern is that the client doesn’t want to have to continue to pay for Wordpess, and would ideally like to only pay for Squarespace.
Is there any way around paying for two platforms?
-
Perhaps you need to get your client to post here or check with them exactly who they paid. If they purchased a WordPress.com plan there is a 14 day refund window. If they purchased a plan with Powweb you’re truly in the wrong place.
Are you sure they have a domain currently registered/hosted at WordPress.com?
A Whois (unless it is out of date) saysDomain Name: RCSQUARED.COM
Registrar: eNom LLC
Name Server: NS2.POWWEB.COM
Name Server: NS3.POWWEB.COM -
To my knowledge, they renewed their plan for one year with WordPress on May 24th. We won’t cancel the domain, we simply want to transfer it to Squarespace. And only pay for Squarespace. What are the exact steps to starting this process?

Hello,
I am the client and looking at my receipt from 5/24/2021, I paid WordPress $96 for a premium site and $18 for the domain registration (rcsquaredlab.com).
Thanks,
-
rcsquaredlab is a completely different domain to the one your web designer posted earlier………
As you are now logged in to the correct account then you can navigate to Manage Purchases to get a refund on your plan. You don’t want to miss the 14 day refund period. Make sure you don’t cancel the domain though. That will need mapping to your new host.

This thread is tagged for staff assistance to check the status of your domain though. -
I have spoken to the client and have a few questions:
1) How long will it take to refund the money back to the card?
2) Can you keep a domain and not have a WordPress plan?
3) If so, how long will it take to point/transfer the WordPress domain to Squarespace?
4) We need this site to be live soon, will there be a delay when pointing the domain to Squarespace?
5) After the site is pointed to Squarespace, do we have to wait 60 days to transfer the domain completely to Squarespace? Please send the steps and best way to handle this.
Thanks!

That particular domain can be transferred, only under the rcsquared account, by following the steps at https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/transfer-domain-registration/

Looks like our replies crossed. Here are the specific answers:
1. The refund will be sent immediately, but depending on the credit card provider, it can take up to 10 days to appear on your statement.
Do not refund the plan until after the domain has transferred though (or you may lose the domain), and please keep in mind the refund window: https://wordpress.com/support/manage-purchases/#refund-policy
2. Yes, you can just refund the plan portion, keep the domain here, and direct it anywhere by changing the name servers: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/change-name-servers/
3 and 4. The process from our end is instant, but we can’t speak for the process on the receiving domain registrar’s end.
5. No, the only things that ICANN (the organization which oversees all domain registrars) locks domains for is 60 days after initial registration and 60 days after transfer.
If you simply direct the domain by changing its name servers, that will not block a future transfer.

The domain (www.rcsquaredlab.com) has successfully been transferred to Squarespace. Just confirming, that I can now cancel my plan with WordPress and receive a full refund?
