I need information on pricing and process. Your website directed me here.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Looking at the other responses, it appears that WordPress does not support incoming domain transfers at all. Is that correct?

    Hi,

You can look into the Domain Mapping feature, which allows you to use a domain you already own: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

But you are correct, there is no easy way to transfer your domain to WordPress.

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi there,

It’s not possible to transfer a domain to us, no, but you can connect it here using domain mapping, as explained above. That means you’ll still need to pay your domain provider to renew your domain each year.

Let us know if you have any questions about this.

If I cancel or delete a domain that is currently registered elsewhere, can I then register it with WordPress?

By the way, I find WordPress’s policy of not accepting incoming domain transfers to be unnecessarily restrictive. Please explain.

  • @formerprof

Cancelling a domain is risky, as most registrars won’t release it immediately, and when the domain is released someone else might register it before you even know it’s been released. So I wouldn’t advise that route.

I find WordPress’s policy of not accepting incoming domain transfers to be unnecessarily restrictive.

This is not a policy. It is a technical impossibility. Our registrar does not allow us to accept incoming domain transfers, so as much as we want to do this, we can’t.
