transfer domain TO wordpress.com

  My website was previously hosted by wix.com.

  (www.sweetelizabethcakes.com)

  When my upgrade package was up for renewal, I decided to create a blog/website using wordpress.com because I wasn’t fond of wix.com.

  I have paid for an additional year of domain hosting through wix.com in order to secure my domain and not run the risk of it expiring and losing it to someone else.

  I have followed the instructions on wix.com to transfer AWAY from wix.com (I would like to TRANSFER my domain name to wordpress.com). After following the instructions on wix.com, this is what I received.

  “Transfer Code:

  mnd548736#%

  How to Use the Code?
  Copy this code into the required field with your new registrar, and your domain
  transfer will be completed. Please note that some registrars will require a
  mandatory 60-day waiting period between purchase and transfer of domain.”

  Can you actually transfer a domain name to wordpress.com, or do you have to “map” it?

  You cannot change the name servers on wix.com until the domain is transferred.

  I have already tried to change the IP addresses on wix.com to point to wordpress.com.

  Please help! I am terrible with computers and REALLY confused.

  WordPress.com does not accept incoming domain transfers. There is a domain mapping upgrade available though. http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/

  We do not accept incoming domain transfers, and you would have to change your name servers to direct a domain to us. I recommend transferring to a registrar that will allow you to do that, most do.

  Thank you so much for your help.

  I am going to transfer my domain away from wix.com to ixwebhosting.com because they say that they support wordpress.com.

  Will I be able to transfer the content from my blog directly to them?
  I do not want to have to re-do my blog once I use them as a host.

  You don’t necessarily have to move your blog content if you don’t want to, you’ll just need to direct your name servers to us following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

  If you want to self-host your blog with them, you can transfer your content following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
