transfer domain to wordpress.com

Hi, I own the domain lugest.com registered at OVH and it expires tomorrow (2016-06-22). I want to use this domain directly with wordpress.com (lugestfc.wordpress.com). OVH gave me a transfer code but I don’t find where to enter this code on wordpress.com. Should I wait for tomorrow or later and try to register lugest.com directly from wordpress.com ? Or it’s better to use the transfer code ? Thx in advance for your help.

    Howdy lugestfc!
WordPress.com does not support incoming transfer of Domains, read more about it here Transfer Domains to WordPress

Also, you will have to use the service Map Your Existing Domain

You will have to be subscribed with one of the paid Plans

You will get a Domain credit and you should be able to Map your Domain to your site lugestfc.wordpress.com

Also note, please don’t wait for the Domain to expire, please renew it there asap. Everything else WordPress.com will take care, you would have to just keep the Domain there, hosting will be here and the features as per the plan you choose.
Hope this helps, let us know for any further questions…!

I already subscribed to a paid plan. With it I understand that I can choose a new domain name (if available). I also understand that I can keep my domain and redirect to wordpress.com but if I do that, I pay both wordpress.com and my registrar. Is it possible to leave my registrar since the domain expires soon in order to pay only wordpress.com for the same service ?

    Hi again!
Thank you for the reply, no its not possible to Transfer the domain to WordPress, my First link Transfer Domains to WordPress explains that, currently it is not possible. You will just have to pay for the Domain charge, with your Registrar as for now. You can save on Hosting. As you just have to pay the charge for the Domain.
Hope this helps, let us know for any further questions..!

Hi :) OK, but what if I let the domain expires and after I use it directly on my paid plan on wordpress.com ? Not a transfer but a new registration.

This is not to save 12€/year but to have only one service to deal with, to simplify operations.

    Hi again :)
Thank you for the question. Yes, that is possible, but chances are your site would not be having the Custom Domain pointing until your domain is free totally. Usually, all providers have a certain time they hold the Domain before they release it free. So your site can’t use the domain until that time. It’s usually a few months. Secondly, if it’s set free, you have to be the first one to register it right away, as one’s the domain is free anyone can Buy it. Nothing is assured.
So if that works, you can take a chance.

Or other way jus simply renews it there.
You can decide as per your convenience..!

This is the process of Domain expiration within WordPress,

Should be similar for your Registrar too.

Let me know for any other questions..!
Would be happy to assist you further.. !
    Best Wishes..! :)

Thx a lot. I understand now why it’s better to renew the domain with the registrar. I also found this link with a picture which explain that.

Your link is very usefull too, thank you.

I decided to renew my domain now, too bad that wordpress.com does not support incoming transfer of domains.
