Transfer Domains
-
I have a domain that is expiring, and I cannot get help on how to renew it. The domain was initially created by smoeone no longer with our group, and I have been given administrator rights, but I don;t seem to be able to renew it. So I want to create a new domain and transfer the expiring domain over to the new domain. #1 – I can do this, correct? #2 – When the old domain expires, will I still be able to access my new domain and not skip a beat?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I would be happy to assist you in renewing pack87.com. However, the upgrade that was purchased is not associated with the account you contacted us from. You cannot just be an administrator, you have to be the owner in order to renew. To confirm ownership, post in this thread under the username/account that purchased the upgrade. Then, I can look into refunding the subscription purchase.
So I want to create a new domain and transfer the expiring domain over to the new domain. #1 – I can do this, correct?
Are you saying that you want to create a new WordPress.com site and transfer the domain to that site? Or are you wanting to have two custom domains attached to the same site?
#2 – When the old domain expires, will I still be able to access my new domain and not skip a beat?
If you are referring to a new WordPress.com URL then yes, your blog and WordPress.com URL will remain intact after the custom domain expires. However, if you want to renew the domain and keep it, log in under the owner of the upgrade and you should be able to.
Hope that helps. Thanks!

Good afternoon. I have registered a new domain with WordPress, and I would like to duplicate the Pack87.com content to this new domain. What are the steps to do this? Thank you!

Hey there!
In order to move your content to another blog, Go to My Site → Settings and select the Export tab to download a copy of your blog’s content.

Great. Did the Export, and Import ( I believe). Right now, Pack87.com is redirecting to the new Domain, so I don’t really know if I’m fine with my new domain (Pack87.net). Or do I?
When I browse to pack87.net, am I really seeing .net, or am I seeing pack87.com (just displaying as Pack87.net)?
Make sense?

Yes…I think =)
So, I see that Pack87.net is your primary domain and Pack87.com is being forwarded to Pack87.net. So, Pack87.com and Pack87.net is the same site because they are both under pack87dotcom.wordpress.com.
Were you wanting them to be connected to two separate sites?
-
Good question…….Don’t really know.
.com is going to expire here shortly, and I basically want .net to take its place when it expires.
Am I covered?

At the risk of being painfully redundant, by exporting all, importing to .net, and making .net primary- that’s all that needs to be done?
-
Well, where are you exporting from and to? I only see one blog under your account. So, if you wanting to export content from pack87.com to pack87.net, there is no need to – they are the same blog.

Gotcha. So the blog is “attached” to the WordPress URL and not the domain.
Thanks for the 101, and all your help Double D!
