Transfer email subscribers and followers

I want to transfer my current blog to another address on wordpress.com which I already possess. How can I ensure my email subscribers also get transferred. Please help.

Sure! In order to move your blog content to an address you already own, you’ll want to export the content of your current blog and import it into the new blog. Here’s a helpful support document that explains how to do this:
If you select “change blog address”, this will permanently delete your old URL, and you won’t be able to recover it. I’d personally suggest marking your old site as private so you can retain the URL, and import your content to the more desired address.

I forgot to mention this in the above post, but the ‘Transfer blog’ option is for transferring your blog ownership to another user/account. Just to clarify!

Hello sunernovia, yes, I just want to rename it. It is currently returnoftheprodigal.wordpress.com and I want to rename it to my name ramaarya.wordpress.com (a URL I already possess with you).
In this process I would like all my data AND followers (including email subscribers) to be transferred, and not lose anything. Post transfer, I plan to delete returnoftheprodigal completely, and just have ramaarya.wordpress.com only.
Please help me with a successful transfer. Thanks in advance. :)

One last question supernovia, does renaming also update the inline text links to my other posts so there are no broken links inside the posts? Do help. Am struggling with this whole process. :( Am willing to pay for a guided renaming.

@ramaarya renaming the site is much less work, but you would need to choose a name that doesn’t exist yet.

Whether you rename or use the export/import process, links within the site will be updated.
Outside links (like links from Google to your site) will not be updated. You would need to get a Site Rediret upgrade for that:

Hello again supernovia and ldr2273. I have just finished going through the guide. It says images may not get exported??? And may need to be manually transferred. Now how does one do that?

Have done the export and import, and manually made the changes in settings and appearance as well. There are a few updates which have still not happened though:
1. The inline links have not been automatically updated to the new blog urls.
2. Followers still need to be transferred. I have transferred Facebook and twitter through publicize. The email and other followers are pending.
3. This is a question. One of my posts in returnoftheprodigal was featured in freshly pressed, for which a badge was provided as a widget and I had put it on my right bar. That widget is no longer available. Can I have it back please. :) Added a lot of prestige to my blog.Anticipated thanks,

Hmmm, okay. I don’t know if there’s a way to transfer the Freshly Pressed badge.

For anyone else wondering though:
– it’s best to just keep your site name if you have good publicity with it already. Better still: get a custom domain.
– next best choice is to use the rename tool BEFORE the new URL exists
– import and export is another option, but as you can see it’s a lot of work. While we can help transfer posts and followers, badges and SEO and what not will not transfer over.
Anyway. Hope that helps. We’ll email to see what we can do.
