Transfer existing (expiring) domain to WordPress
-
I have a domain that has been in use at another host. I would like to stop using that host for my website, and transfer the domain to cover my wordpress.com weblog site.
How can I do this? It seems I can only buy a new domain…there is no option to transfer a domain so that WordPress.com has control over it (as if I had registered it with them to begin with.
Is this possible?

Yes it is possible. See here please > http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/ Read also > http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/

This implies I keep my domain registered with the current company. I’d prefer to have the domain registered via WP for $5/year instead of what I’m paying now. Is THIS possible?

WordPress.COM can’t transfer domain names into their system – since you are registered elsewhere you can’t transfer the name to WordPress.COM (you can use the name here) – there are other places that will accept transfers of domains. I used namecheap once and so far so good.

Thanks auxclass…that was exactly what I was wondering. And thanks for the referral…I’ll check them out.
