Transfer free theme to self hosted wordpress

  • Unknown's avatar

im in the process of moving my wordpress.com hosted site to a self hosted one on siteground. I successfully transferred all the data and changed the site to point to the new host, but once everything was done the site theme was all messed up. I’m using a the free “parament” theme. How do i transfer my existing theme and customizations to the new self hosted site?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

It’s not possible to “transfer” your theme the same way you did your content, but with a couple of extra steps you should be able to get your new site looking like the old one pretty quickly.

To get the self-hosted version of your theme, you can either download it by clicking the link at the bottom of the right column on this page: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/parament/

alternatively you can go to appearance>themes on your new site, click “add new” then search for your theme by name. (This is probably the simpler option.)

As for your customizations, if you had the css upgrade on your .com site, you can copy the changes you made to your css from the css window in the customizer. If you use jetpack on the .org site, you will have a similar css window where you can paste your changes.

Any other changes you made to the theme (adding headers, etc.) I’m afraid you will have to re-do by hand.

If I’ve missed anything, please let me know. Good luck with your new site!
