Transfer from WordPress.com to .org
-
Hi
I want to export a blog from WordPress.com to WordPress.org. When I carry out the process am I just copying the content so that I still have the WordPress.com site as before (while I sort out the new site) or do I lose the old site content on WordPress.com in the process?
Many thanks -
Your WordPress.com blog will remain unharmed. You’re basically just copying content from one blog to another, nothing will be deleted.

How do you edit the blog at .org. I transferred my site so that I can add the google friend widget but, I can’t figure out how to edit the new blog.

You’ll have to access the blog through the domain on your hosting account.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/WordPress.org has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress at:
http://wordpress.org/support/
http://codex.wordpress.org/ -
I edit my wp.org blog almost exactly the same way as my wp.com blog —
in both cases, I go to myblogname.com/wp-admin and log in with my id and password. Most (all?) of the tools look and work about the same way. -
The bottom line is that we do not provide support here for those who have wordpress.org installs. Support for them is provided here http://wordpress.org/support/
