transfer lock will not unlock
-
I requested an authorization code, which I received in my email. I’m not able to initiate the transfer on the other host because it says it is locked and indeed, it appears to be locked and will not unlock. I read through the linked instructions which provided no further insight.
WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: No
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I thought this was a support ticket rather than a post to a forum. To follow up i’m trying to move the DNS hosting to cloudflare. I requested a domain auth code which I received by email, but the toggle remains locked and will not toggle to unlock. There is a link to a page called ‘why is my domain locked?’ which doesn’t give any reason, just additional instruction on receiving the auth code, which I’ve already done.

There seems to be a ton of similar posts dating back a month or more, none of which show any resolution but seem to require admin intervention and those posts are closed, so I can’t seem to piggyback on those requests. I’m still trying to unlock my domain and it remains locked and unable to unlock.

Hi there!
I’ll be happy to help you today. Can you tell us which domain, in particular, you need help with?
Please note the following:
- A domain you recently transferred to us can’t be transferred again for 60 days. It’s a regulatory requirement mandated by ICANN.
- You can use Cloudflare nameservers on your domain if you want to use Cloudflare services. You don’t necessarily need to transfer the domain to them.
I see that two of your domains already have Cloudflare nameservers, and two other domains are still in the process of being transferred to us. The domains were transferred to us recently, so you won’t be able to transfer them again until 60 days have passed. But we’d like to understand why you want to transfer the domains since you’re already pointing them to Cloudflare nameservers. :)
Feel free to let us know if you have more questions.

Thank you for the reply and the clarification. I have a couple reasons for deciding to move, primarily CloudFlare specializes in domain related services and they offer a more robust feature set; a few are mission critical and others convenient. Email forwarding at the address level, 2048 DKIM records (your TXT record is limited to 255 chars and some of my hosts only provide 2048 DKIM), additional security, caching and much more.
I was presented with a generous offer from WordPress for a free year and in my haste misread the advertisement as Google’s recommendation as a new host and thus made my decision too quickly. After moving two domains and experiencing the DKIM issue and then posting to support forums, I’ve decided to consolidate my DNS registration with same place as my DNS hosting.
Will it simply be able to be unlocked after 60 days? It would be nice if there was some kind of information noting that alongside the unlock switch – all documentation and forums I found suggested that it should unlock and it’s quite frustrating that this process is unnecessarily opaque.
Thanks again for the clarification.

Thanks for clarifying.
To explain, this “60 day lock” is a requirement set by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and is observed by all ICANN-accredited registrars. ICANN provides more info here: https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/text-2012-02-25-en
Because this is a requirement that we must adhere to in order to retain our accreditation, it is not within our control to lift this 60 day lock for any reason. However, as you correctly guessed, after 60 days this lock is removed automatically. On day 61 you can transfer the domains as normal, and should not expect any issues.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Thanks again for the info. I have several domains for which I initiated a transfer but they were never approved. Is there anyway to cancel those? I never received the confirmation/approval email on those: They are brightsideresumes.com, wanderbird.life and wanderingwanderbird.com.

Hi there,
The transfer has been canceled for all three domains. So, there’s nothing else to do on your end. You’re more than welcome to try and transfer them here again, and we’ll be happy to help you.
