Transfer my domain?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I’d like to transfer my domain. Specifically because I am not receiving any customer support through WordPress.com and have no way to seem to go ahold of anyone. However, I am not sure how to do that if I can’t get ahold of anyone!

    Hello,
    What is your domain?

I see you’ve pointed your domain to Bluehost. If you have content on WordPress.com that you want to move over, see this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/

If you want to transfer the domain registration from WordPress.com to Bluehost, see this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/

Ok thank you. Will I be charged for a full year again upon transferring? My registration just auto-renewed two months ago. If so, I’d rather transfer in 10 months. Do you know, however, where I can confirm that I am receiving what I paid for through WordPress? The issue originally came up because I paid extra for private registration, but when talking to Bluehost for something else was told by customer service that my domain in fact was not private and anyone would be able to easily access my information.

I found a support document about this at Bluehost: https://my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/transfer

In the notes section it says they will charge you $15.99 and add a full year to your current registration period. Since your domain registration was renewed more than 60 days ago (October 10, 2015), you should be able to transfer it now.

As to private registration, Bluehost is correct. Your personal contact information is currently easily accessible by the public.

You can see all of the transactions for WordPress.com in your billing history. Here’s more information about that: https://en.support.wordpress.com/billing-history/

If you were charged for private registration, add “modlook” to the tags for this thread and a staff member will stop by to assist.

I was charged for a private registration…but it looks like it was my fault that it was not private…

I logged into the my domain page to begin the transfer and I’m pretty confused as to what’s going on. First, my contact information was very outdated, so I updated it before seeing that this meant I could not transfer for another 60 days. I then was going to give up on transferring until then, but noticed something saying that my domain was already ready for transfer and I just had to click accept. I clicked accept as I do remember attempting this process before…but I do not know where the status of my account remains at this point as nothing else came up?

Also, I apologize but I was messaging you from the wrong account before, so you probably did not have access to my information. I did not realize I had two separate accounts.

  • Hi there,

The reason your domain is not private is because you initiated a domain transfer. Domains cannot be transferred if private registration is active, so it is deactivated when you start a transfer. This is clearly explained both in the support documentation and on the domain transfer page.

Your domain doesn’t currently show that it’s pending transfer, despite the message on the domain manager page. Did you ever get an email with a transfer code? You would have had to give that to Bluehost.
